Background
I am a student at Ivy Tech Community College enrolled in a teacher-training program, and full-time music instructor at the Carmel Music Academy. I love to read and to share the joy of learning with others. As a musician, instructor and student, I identify very strongly with the notion that there is a purpose in the process itself, which is distinct from the defined learning objective and represents the construction of individual thought, in connection to personal learning. I believe the mere act of attending to our thoughts and ideas stimulates the mind, energizes academic effort, and shows students different ways of knowing in the context of learning, revealing to them their own unique learning styles.
In particular, my areas of interest include the arts, psychology, human development, educational research and student advocacy. Teaching and working with young people are passions which I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to explore, and were catalytic in my decision to pursue a degree in the field of education. The intrinsic rewards associated with guiding students to discover and develop their talents and facilities remain to me, unmatched. If I was to define what education does, I would say it shows us how to think in challenging ways, and challenges the ways in which we think.
